Mayville, Wis. – Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. (MEC) announced today it has acquired APEX Clay Traps (APEX), a Missouri based manufacturer of clay trap machines for the shooting sports industry. As a result of the acquisition, MEC will leverage the combined strengths of both firms to launch a full line of clay target machines that will complement the market presence of their popular line of MEC shotshell reloaders. The new MEC clay target machines are ideal for individuals desiring to provide shooting fun for family and friends, as well as equipment to meet the requirements of commercial trap, skeet, and sporting clay ranges.
The production of the clay target machines will soon move to MEC’s Mayville, Wis. facility to leverage the engineering and manufacturing strengths of the company. For over 50 years, the employee owners of MEC have been designing, building and servicing the best shotgun shell reloaders in the world and have built a tremendous following of dedicated customers. MEC intends to apply the same know-how and commitment to the clay target machines product line.
“The acquisition of APEX is an excellent addition to our business and I’m excited about the opportunities that it brings for the growth of MEC in the shooting sports industry”, said Robert Kamphuis, chairman, president and CEO of MEC. “Owners Simon Hurley and Andy Perkins are well known throughout the shooting industry and we’re pleased to welcome them to the MEC family and we look forward to working with them to continue to develop the MEC clay target machines product line.”
Hurley and Perkins will remain actively involved in the business and will join MEC as employee shareholders. “We are very excited to join MEC, a name that is known throughout the shotgun shooting fraternity as the best and most popular reloader on the market”, Perkins said. “MEC is commited to providing the same quality equipment and service to the line of MEC clay target machines and our shooting course design and consultation services.”
