Frostman kicks off Manufacturing Month with Mayville Engineering

BEAVER DAM (10/7/19) – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary-designee Caleb Frostman today visited Mayville Engineering Company (MEC) in Beaver Dam to celebrate the start of manufacturing month here in Wisconsin and discuss the impact of manufacturing in rural communities.

“Governor Tony Evers has proclaimed October to be Manufacturing Month here in Wisconsin to recognize the impact that the manufacturing industry has on our state and the vital contributions it makes of more than $63 billion last year alone,” Frostman said. “With nearly 475,000 Wisconsinites employed in manufacturing the impact these jobs have on Wisconsin communities is invaluable.”

Frostman sat down with MEC leadership to discuss broader workforce issues like talent attraction and retention and learn more about the needs of manufacturers in rural communities before taking a tour of the Beaver Dam East plant and awarding the company with a Manufacturing Month Proclamation.

“Manufacturers like MEC tap into many workforce development opportunities to create a robust and growing company,” Frostman said. “Not only have they taken advantage of our Wisconsin Fast Forward program to hire and upskill unemployed individuals, they’re thinking about their future talent pipeline by participating in workforce growth programs like Youth Apprenticeship.”

MEC, an employee-owned company of more than 3,000 employees, has 21 locations across eight states and started in a rented garage in the back alley off of Mayville’s Main Street in 1945.

“MEC was delighted to host Secretary Frostman at our Beaver Dam East location promoting Manufacturing Month in Wisconsin,” said Eric Welak, Executive Vice President – Fabrication Operations. “We appreciate everything the Secretary has done to support manufacturing growth and the programs he supports to promote talent attraction and retention.”
